Composite Filling 1 Surface (Cervical)

A one surface composite filling in the cervical area is the repair of decay or wear on a single surface of a tooth near the gumline, using a tooth coloured composite material. The cervical area, sometimes called the neck of the tooth, is the region where the tooth meets the gum. Over time this part of the tooth can lose material for several reasons: decay, wear from brushing too hard, or exposure of the root surface when the gum recedes. The area can also become sensitive to cold or to touch. During the procedure, the affected area is cleaned, and a composite resin that bonds chemically to the tooth is placed and shaped to match the natural colour of the tooth, then hardened with a light. The description one surface means the repair covers only a single surface of the tooth, in this case the surface near the gum, rather than wrapping around several sides. The result both protects the tooth from further damage and restores a natural appearance, and where there was sensitivity, covering the exposed area can help to reduce it. This item covers a single tooth and a single surface. Your dentist will assess the area and explain whether a composite filling is the right approach, or whether another treatment would suit the tooth better.

Composite Filling 1 Surface (O)

A composite filling is a treatment in which teeth that have lost structure to decay are repaired with a tooth coloured material. After the decay is cleaned, the gap that is left is filled with a composite resin matched to the colour of the tooth and set with a special light so it bonds firmly to the tooth. A single surface filling is used for small to medium decay on just one surface of the tooth; thanks to its tooth coloured structure it is not noticeable from the outside. At Positive Dental Studio the procedure starts with an assessment of the decay in your tooth, the decay is cleaned carefully, and the tooth is repaired in a single session with a colour matched material.

Composite Filling 2 Surface (DO)

A two surface composite filling, of the DO type, is a tooth coloured filling that covers two surfaces of a tooth: the distal surface, which is the side facing towards the back of the mouth, and the occlusal surface, which is the chewing surface on top. Decay does not always stay on a single surface of a tooth. It often reaches two neighbouring surfaces at once, and a DO filling is used when the side of the tooth facing its rear neighbour and the biting surface on top both need to be restored together. During the procedure, the decay or any old filling material is first removed and the tooth is cleaned. Because one of the surfaces is between the tooth and its neighbour, a thin band called a matrix is usually placed around the tooth, so that the contact point with the next tooth can be rebuilt to the correct shape. A composite resin that bonds chemically to the tooth is then placed in layers and hardened with a curing light, and shaped to match the natural tooth. The tooth coloured material restores the shape of the tooth, its chewing function and its proper contact with the neighbouring tooth, which is important for keeping food from packing between the teeth. The description two surface means the repair covers two surfaces. This item covers a single tooth. Your dentist will assess the tooth and explain the best way to restore it.

Composite Filling 2 Surface (MO)

A two surface composite filling, of the MO type, is a tooth coloured filling that covers two surfaces of a tooth: the mesial surface, which is the side facing towards the front of the mouth, and the occlusal surface, which is the chewing surface on top. Decay frequently reaches two neighbouring surfaces at once, and an MO filling is used when the side of the tooth facing its front neighbour and the biting surface on top both need to be restored together as a single repair. During the procedure, the decay or any old filling material is first removed and the tooth is cleaned. Because one of the surfaces lies between the tooth and the tooth in front of it, a thin band called a matrix is usually placed around the tooth, so that the contact point with the next tooth can be rebuilt to the correct shape and tightness. A composite resin that bonds chemically to the tooth is then placed in layers and hardened with a curing light, and shaped to match the natural tooth. The tooth coloured material restores the shape of the tooth, its chewing function and its proper contact with the neighbouring tooth, which helps to stop food from packing into the gap between the teeth and keeps the area easier to clean. The description two surface means the repair covers two surfaces of the tooth. This item covers a single tooth. Your dentist will assess the extent of the decay and explain the best way to restore the tooth.

Composite Filling 3 Surface (MOD)

A three surface composite filling, of the MOD type, is a tooth coloured filling that covers three surfaces of a tooth at once: the mesial surface, facing the front of the mouth, the occlusal surface, the chewing surface on top, and the distal surface, facing the back of the mouth. It is used when decay or loss of tooth structure affects both side surfaces of the tooth and the biting surface together, which makes it a more extensive repair than a one or two surface filling. During the procedure, the decay or any old filling material is removed and the tooth is cleaned. Because the repair involves the surfaces between the tooth and both of its neighbours, a thin band called a matrix is placed around the tooth so that the contact points on each side can be rebuilt to the correct shape. A composite resin that bonds to the tooth is then placed in layers, hardened with a curing light, and shaped to match the natural tooth. The tooth coloured material restores the shape of the tooth, its chewing function and its correct contact with the teeth on both sides. When a tooth has lost a large amount of structure across three surfaces, your dentist may also discuss whether a crown or an inlay or onlay would give better long term durability than a direct filling, since a wide filling leaves less natural tooth to support it. This item covers a single tooth, and your dentist will advise the best approach.

Cosmetic Composite Filling (Bonding/Lamina/Veneer)

A cosmetic composite filling is a treatment that improves the shape, colour and look of a tooth with a tooth coloured material; it is also known as bonding. The composite resin applied to the tooth surface is shaped by hand and set with a special light, so an aesthetic result is achieved without grinding the tooth down. Unlike a porcelain laminate, bonding is usually completed in a single session and does not call for the loss of tooth structure. At Positive Dental Studio the treatment starts with an assessment of your teeth and your expectations, the colour and shape are planned to suit your smile, and we work to give you an aesthetic look while protecting your teeth.

Composite Diastema Closure (Single Tooth)

Composite diastema closure is the closing of a gap between teeth, a diastema, by adding tooth coloured composite material to create a more even and harmonious appearance. A diastema is a space between teeth, seen most often between the two upper front teeth. It can be natural, or it can arise from the way the gum, the jaw or the teeth have developed. This treatment closes that gap in a conservative way. The tooth is not cut or significantly reduced; instead, composite resin is added to the surface of the tooth in thin layers, shaped to follow the natural form and shade of the tooth, and hardened with a curing light. By carefully building up the edge of the tooth, the gap is closed while keeping the proportions of the tooth looking natural, so the result is a balanced smile rather than an obviously widened tooth. The procedure is usually completed in a single visit, and because little or no natural tooth is removed, it is a gentle option that is more easily reversed or adjusted later than some alternatives. This item covers a single tooth, since closing a gap may involve adding composite to one or both of the teeth on either side of it, each assessed separately. Your dentist will assess the gap and your expectations and explain whether composite closure is the right approach for you.

Root Canal Treatment - 1 Canal (Filling Excl.)

Root canal treatment is used when the nerve and blood vessel tissue inside the tooth becomes inflamed or dies. The canals in the root of the tooth are cleaned, disinfected and filled with a special material, so a tooth that might otherwise need to be pulled stays in the mouth. Single canal treatment is usually used on single rooted teeth such as the front teeth. At Positive Dental Studio the procedure starts with an assessment of the tooth and the root canal, is carried out under anaesthesia as comfortably as possible, and is followed by advice on the filling or crown that will protect the tooth.

Root Canal Treatment - 2 Canals (Filling Excl.)

Root canal treatment for a tooth with two canals is the treatment of the inside of a tooth that has two root canals. Inside every tooth is a soft tissue called the pulp, which contains the nerve and blood supply. When this pulp becomes inflamed or infected, through deep decay, a crack or an injury, it can cause pain or an abscess, and without treatment the tooth may need to be removed. Root canal treatment is the way to keep the tooth instead. During the procedure, the tooth is first numbed with local anaesthetic so that it is comfortable. The diseased tissue inside the tooth is then removed, and the canals are cleaned, shaped and disinfected to clear the infection. Finally, the canals are filled with a suitable sealing material and closed, so that bacteria cannot re enter. This particular item is for a tooth with two canals; the number of roots and canals a tooth has determines the scope of the treatment, which is why two, three and four canal treatments are listed separately. The phrase filling excluded means that the permanent filling, or a crown if one is needed, which restores and protects the top of the tooth afterwards, is treated as a separate procedure. Your dentist will carry out the treatment under anaesthetic and explain healing and aftercare.

Root Canal Treatment - 3 Canals (Filling Excl.)

Root canal treatment for a tooth with three canals is the treatment of the inside of a tooth that has three root canals. Teeth with three canals are most often upper molars, the larger teeth towards the back of the upper jaw, which usually have three roots. As the number of canals increases, the treatment becomes more detailed work, because each canal has to be located, cleaned, shaped and filled individually. Inside every tooth is a soft tissue called the pulp, which contains the nerve and blood supply. When this pulp becomes inflamed or infected, through deep decay, a crack or an injury, it can cause pain or an abscess, and without treatment the tooth may need to be removed. Root canal treatment keeps the tooth instead. During the procedure, the tooth is first numbed with local anaesthetic. The diseased tissue inside is removed, and all three canals are cleaned, shaped and disinfected to clear the infection. The phrase filling excluded means the permanent filling, or a crown if needed, that restores the top of the tooth afterwards is a separate procedure. Your dentist will carry out the treatment under anaesthetic and explain healing and aftercare.

Root Canal Treatment - 4 Canals (Filling Excl.)

Root canal treatment for a tooth with four canals is the treatment of the inside of a tooth that has four root canals. Four canals are found most often in molars, and in particular in some upper molars where an additional canal is present alongside the usual three. This is the most extensive of the canal treatments, because all four canals must each be located, cleaned, shaped and filled individually, and finding every canal reliably is an important part of the work. The diseased tissue inside is removed, and all four canals are cleaned, shaped and disinfected to clear the infection from the roots. Root Canal Retreatment - 1 Canal (Filling Excl.)

Root canal retreatment for a tooth with one canal is the repeat treatment of a single canal tooth that has already had root canal treatment in the past. The key difference from a first time treatment is that this time there is filling material already inside the tooth from the previous treatment, so the procedure begins by carefully removing that old root canal filling before anything else can be done. A tooth that was treated before can become a problem again for several reasons. A new area of decay may let bacteria back in, an old filling may leak, a canal may have been narrow or missed at the first attempt, or the tooth may have cracked. When this happens, the infection can return, sometimes with pain, swelling or an abscess, even years later. Retreatment is the way to try to keep the tooth rather than remove it. During the procedure, the tooth is first numbed with local anaesthetic. The old filling material is then carefully removed from the canal, and the canal is re cleaned, reshaped and disinfected to clear the new infection. It is then refilled with a suitable sealing material and closed again. This item is for the retreatment of a single canal tooth, and filling excluded means the permanent filling or crown that restores the top of the tooth is a separate procedure. Your dentist will carry out the treatment under anaesthetic and explain healing and aftercare.

Root Canal Perforation Repair (MTA etc.)

Root canal perforation repair is the sealing of an unwanted hole, called a perforation, in the wall or floor of a root canal, using a biocompatible material. A perforation is a small opening that connects the inside of the tooth to the tissues around the root, outside the natural canal pathway. It can occur during root canal treatment or while preparing space for a post, and it can also arise from advanced decay or from internal resorption, where the tooth structure breaks down from within. If a perforation is left open, it can allow irritation and infection to reach the surrounding tissues, which over time can lead to inflammation and even loss of the tooth. The aim of the repair is to close this opening so the tooth can be kept rather than removed. During the procedure, the area around the perforation is cleaned, and the opening is then sealed in a leak proof way, most often with MTA, which stands for mineral trioxide aggregate, or a similar biocompatible repair cement. These materials are well tolerated by the tissues and support healing around the site. The position of the perforation, its size and the overall condition of the tooth all affect the outcome, and your dentist will assess these and explain what can be expected. This item covers the perforation repair. Your dentist will carry out the treatment under local anaesthetic and explain healing and aftercare.

Broken Instrument Removal from Canal

Removal of a broken instrument from a canal is the procedure of taking out a fractured instrument or fragment that has remained inside a root canal. Root canal treatment involves cleaning and shaping the canals with very fine instruments called files. Some canals are very narrow, curved or calcified, and under these conditions the tip of a fine file can occasionally separate, leaving a small fragment inside the canal. In a similar way, a fragment of material from a previous treatment can sometimes be left behind. A retained fragment matters because it can block the canal and prevent it from being fully cleaned and sealed, which is important for the long term success of the treatment. For this reason, the aim is to remove the fragment where possible, or to bypass it so that the canal can still be cleaned and filled past it. This is a precise and careful procedure. It is usually carried out under magnification, often with a dental microscope, and with special instruments designed to reach and grip the fragment through the canal. The tooth is numbed with local anaesthetic beforehand. The position of the fragment, how deep it sits and the shape of the canal all affect how successful removal is likely to be, and it is not always possible to remove a fragment completely. In those cases your dentist will discuss alternative approaches. This item covers the removal procedure. Your dentist will carry out the treatment under anaesthetic and explain healing and aftercare.

Fiber Post & Core

Fiber post and core is the placement of a glass fiber post and the building of a core in a root treated tooth, in order to form a solid foundation for a crown when much of the natural tooth has been lost. After root canal treatment, a tooth tends to become more brittle, and sometimes so little of the upper part of the tooth remains that there is not enough natural structure to hold a crown on its own. In this situation, a post and core is used to rebuild that foundation. A post made of glass fiber, which is close to the colour of the tooth, is cemented into part of the prepared root canal. This post provides anchorage and support for a core that is then built up on top of it, usually from composite material. The core reshapes the missing upper part of the tooth and creates an even base on which the crown can be fitted. Fiber posts have a particular advantage. Because their flexibility behaves more like natural tooth than a metal post does, they can help to reduce the risk of root fracture, and because they are tooth coloured they are useful in visible areas where a metal post might show through. This item covers the post and core itself. The crown that is fitted over it is a separate procedure. Your dentist will assess how much tooth remains and explain whether a fiber post and core is suitable for your tooth.

everX Fiber Reinforced Core

everX core is a special composite material, reinforced with short glass fibers, used to build the core and foundation in teeth that have lost a large amount of structure. In heavily broken down teeth, or teeth that have had root canal treatment, a strong base is needed to support the filling or crown that will be placed on top. What makes this material distinctive is the short glass fibers within it. These fibers allow the material to behave in a way that is closer to natural dentine, the layer beneath the enamel, than a plain composite would. If a crack begins, the fibers help to guide and limit how it spreads, which is intended to improve the fracture resistance of the restored tooth. The material is usually placed as a base layer that takes the place of the missing dentine, and it is then finished on top with an aesthetic composite or covered by a crown. The difference from a classic post and core is that this fiber reinforced material can in many cases form a strong core directly, without necessarily needing a separate post inside the root. Which approach is right depends on how much tooth remains and on the condition of the root, and the two methods are sometimes used together. This item covers the fiber reinforced core. A crown over it, where one is needed, is a separate procedure. Your dentist will assess the tooth and explain whether this is a suitable way to rebuild it.

Root Amputation (Permanent Tooth)

Root amputation of a permanent tooth is the surgical removal of a single, severely diseased or unsavable root from a tooth that has more than one root, while the rest of the tooth is kept. It is a tooth preserving procedure, and it is not the same as a pulpotomy, which removes pulp tissue from inside a tooth. In multi rooted teeth, such as upper molars, it can happen that only one of the roots becomes hopeless, because of advanced decay, a fractured root, a persistent infection that does not settle, or advanced bone loss around that one root, while the other roots and the crown of the tooth remain sound. In this situation, rather than extracting the whole tooth, the aim is to remove only the problem root and keep the remaining part of the tooth in function. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic. The tooth usually has root canal treatment first, then the affected root, together with the portion of the crown above it, is separated and removed, and the tooth is reshaped so that it stays cleanable and comfortable. Afterwards the tooth is often supported with a crown or another suitable restoration to protect what remains. Root amputation is not suitable for every tooth. The condition of the remaining roots and the surrounding bone determines the outcome, and your dentist will assess whether the tooth is a good candidate. This item covers the root amputation. Your dentist will carry out the treatment under local anaesthetic and explain healing and aftercare.
