Dental Examination

A dental examination is the first step, where your oral health is looked at as a whole; most problems are caught while they are still small, before they give any sign. At Positive Dental Studio we start without rushing: we listen to your complaint, look inside your mouth and at an x-ray if needed, and explain what we find in plain language. If treatment is needed, we draw up a plan that suits you together.

Orthodontic Examination

An orthodontic examination is the first step before any treatment to straighten teeth or correct the bite. During the visit, the orthodontist looks at how your teeth are arranged, how the upper and lower jaws relate to each other, and how this affects your bite and facial balance. Where helpful, the assessment is supported by x-rays, photographs or impressions. You then receive a clear explanation of whether treatment would help, which options suit you, and what each would involve. It is a good opportunity to ask questions about crowding, spacing, bite problems or appearance.

Pediatric Follow-up Examination

A pediatric follow up examination is a regular check up for a child who has been seen before, to keep an eye on how their mouth is developing. The dentist looks at how the baby and adult teeth are coming through, checks for the earliest signs of decay, and makes sure the gums are healthy. If anything needs attention, it can be dealt with early, when treatment is simpler. Where helpful, protective measures such as advice on brushing and diet are planned. Just as importantly, these regular, relaxed visits help your child feel comfortable and build a positive relationship with the dentist.

Pediatric Specialist Examination

A pediatric specialist examination is a thorough first assessment of a child's oral health, carried out by a dentist who focuses on treating children. It is more detailed than a routine check and is a good starting point, whether it is your child's first visit or you have a specific concern. The dentist looks at how the baby and adult teeth are developing, assesses the risk of decay, checks the gums, and looks at how the jaws and bite are growing. Where helpful, protective measures or a treatment plan are suggested and explained. Throughout, the visit is built around keeping your child relaxed and building trust, so dental care feels positive from the start.

Anteroposterior Cephalometric X-Ray

An anteroposterior cephalometric film is a standardised x-ray taken from the front of the head towards the back. Unlike a side view, this front on image shows how symmetrical the face and jaws are and how they relate to each other across the width of the face. It is mainly used in orthodontic and jaw surgery planning, for example when assessing asymmetry or a width mismatch between the upper and lower jaws. Taking the film is quick and painless, and uses a low dose of radiation. You simply hold still for a moment while the image is captured, and the result helps your clinician plan treatment accurately.

CBCT Scan (single arch)

Computed tomography produces a three dimensional image of the jaw and teeth. In dentistry it is usually carried out as cone beam CT, or CBCT, using a scanner designed for the head and jaws. Unlike a flat x-ray, a 3D scan shows the bone, the nerve canals, impacted teeth and the sinus spaces in detail and from any angle. This makes it valuable for planning implants, surgery and root canal treatment, where knowing the exact shape and position of structures matters. Dental CBCT scanners use a relatively low dose, and the scan itself is quick and painless: you simply stay still for a short time. This item covers one jaw.

Dental X-Ray (Periapical)

A periapical x-ray is a small, detailed image that shows one tooth in full, from the crown right down to the tip of the root, along with the bone immediately around it. The word periapical refers to the area around the root tip. This makes it the ideal film for questions about a specific tooth: how deep a cavity goes, whether there is an infection or cyst at the root tip, how a root canal is healing, or the state of the surrounding bone. A small sensor or film is placed inside the mouth next to the tooth, and the image is taken in seconds. The radiation dose is very low, and the procedure is quick and painless.

Hand-Wrist X-Ray

A hand-wrist x-ray is a simple image of the bones of the hand and wrist. The way these bones develop follows a predictable pattern with age, so the film can be used to estimate a child's bone age and which stage of growth they are in. In orthodontics this is valuable information: many treatments that work with jaw growth, such as guiding the jaws in children and teenagers, are most effective at certain growth stages. Knowing where a young patient is in their growth helps the orthodontist plan the timing of treatment. The x-ray is quick, painless and uses a low dose of radiation.

Intraoral Digital Radiography

Intraoral digital radiography is the modern, digital form of the familiar dental x-ray. Instead of film, a small electronic sensor is placed inside the mouth, and the image appears on a screen straight away, with no waiting for film to be developed. The picture is high resolution, so the dentist can examine the teeth, roots and surrounding bone in fine detail, and it can be enlarged on screen to look more closely. Digital sensors are sensitive, which means these x-rays generally use a lower dose of radiation than older film. The process is quick and painless, and gives your dentist clear information to guide diagnosis and treatment.

Lateral Cephalometric X-Ray

A lateral cephalometric film is a standardised side view x-ray of the head. Taken from the side, it shows the upper and lower jaws, the front teeth, and the profile of the face all in one image, and crucially how they relate to one another. The orthodontist or surgeon can take precise measurements from it, for example the position of the jaws relative to the skull, the tilt of the front teeth, and the balance of the profile. This makes it one of the most important films for planning orthodontic treatment and jaw surgery, and for tracking changes over time. Taking it is quick and painless and uses a low dose of radiation; you simply hold still in a set position for a moment.

Panoramic X-Ray

A panoramic x-ray is a low-dose dental film that shows the whole jaw, the teeth and the surrounding bone in one image; it reveals things a single film cannot, such as impacted teeth, cysts and the state of the bone before an implant. At Positive Dental Studio we take it only when needed, to make the diagnosis clear, and go over the image with you, explaining what we see in plain language.

CBCT (Regional)

A regional cone beam CT scan is a 3D image that focuses on just one specific area of the jaw, rather than a whole arch. By limiting the field of view to the region of interest, the scan keeps the imaged area small, which usually means a lower dose of radiation and a very detailed picture of exactly the part that matters. It is the right choice when the question concerns a defined spot, such as planning a single implant, assessing one impacted tooth, or examining a particular lesion or root. The scan is quick and painless: you stay still for a short time while the scanner captures the 3D image, which your clinician then uses to plan accurately.

CBCT (Dual Arch)

This cone beam CT scan captures both the upper and lower jaws together in one three dimensional image. While a single arch scan focuses on one jaw, a dual arch scan gives a broader view, which is useful when treatment involves both jaws at once. It is often chosen for planning implants in both jaws, for assessing how the upper and lower jaws relate to each other, for widespread dental problems, or before more extensive surgery. Capturing both arches in a single scan gives the clinician a complete 3D picture to plan from. The scan is quick and painless, and dental scanners are designed to keep the radiation dose relatively low. You simply stay still while the image is taken.

CBCT (Single Arch)

This cone beam CT scan creates a three dimensional image of one complete jaw, either the upper or the lower. It sits between a regional scan, which focuses on a small area, and a dual arch scan, which covers both jaws: here the whole of one jaw is captured in a single 3D image. That makes it a good choice when the area of interest spans one jaw, for example planning several implants along the same jaw, assessing one or more impacted teeth, or reviewing the bone and structures of that arch before treatment. The scan is quick and painless, and dental scanners are designed to use a relatively low dose. You simply stay still for a short time while the image is captured.

Vitality Test (Per Tooth)

A vitality test checks whether the nerve, or pulp, inside a tooth is still healthy and alive. Inside every tooth is soft tissue containing nerves and blood vessels; if it is damaged by injury, deep decay or infection, it may stop responding. To test this, the dentist applies a gentle stimulus to the tooth, usually something cold, sometimes warm, or a mild electric pulp tester, and notes how the tooth responds. A healthy, living tooth responds to the stimulus, while a tooth whose nerve has died often does not. This helps the dentist understand the state of the tooth and decide whether treatment such as root canal therapy is needed. The test is quick and painless and is carried out per tooth.
